As a person with a university degree, you can apply for a skilled worker visa or a Blue Card.

General information

If you have a university degree recognized in Germany, you can do any professional work.

A professional work is a job for which the worker must have the skills, knowledge and abilities accumulated during university or vocational studies.

To find out whether your university degree is recognized in Germany, you can look it up in the database. If your degree or university is not in the database, you must apply for recognition at the Central Authority for Foreign Education

Please note that some foreign university degrees are only considered equivalent to vocational degrees in Germany.

Blue Card

To be granted a Blue Card, the following conditions must be met:

• Employment contract with a term of at least 6 months.

• The intended job is suitable for professional qualifications.

• Gross pre-tax salary is higher than the prescribed threshold (for 2024)

o   University degree and work experience: 45,300 Euro/ 1 year

o   For occupations with shortage of human resources: 41,041.80 Euro/ 1 year

o   Newcomers, in the first 3 years after graduating from university: €41,041.80 Euro/ 1 year

o   IT specialist: 41,041.80 Euro/ 1 year
